Sennheiser's Momentum True Wireless 5 earbuds have swappable batteries, and reviewers like the sound
TechRadar's reviewer opened both the case and the buds to check the procedure. Sennheiser hadn't yet confirmed replacement-battery prices when he reviewed the earbuds in September 2026.

At a glance
Best for: listeners who want well-reviewed sound and user-replaceable batteries.
Skip it if: longevity is the whole point, since replacement battery prices weren't yet confirmed.
Reviewers agree: the sound impresses.
They split on: calls in noise and fit, from aching ears after around five minutes to comfortable.
Price: $299.95 on Sennheiser's US store, checked on 1 November 2026.
TechRadar's Simon Cocks spent more than two weeks with Sennheiser's Momentum True Wireless 5 earbuds, then checked the headline feature by opening up both the charging case and the buds. His verdict: easy enough, as long as you follow the instructions for the supplied tool. Glued-in cells are why flagship earbuds end up as e-waste within years; Cocks names Fairphone's Fairbuds as essentially the only other rival attempting user-replaceable batteries. Sennheiser's US store lists these at $299.95, checked on 1 November 2026.[1] [2]
Three cells are involved, one in the case and one in each bud. T3's Max Freeman-Mills describes a couple of recessed screws per bud and a single screw on the case, while SoundGuys' Christian Thomas lists steps that include prying each bud open with the included tool and sliding off the case's bottom plate. You bring the screwdriver, a 00 bit, and the replacement cells, which Sennheiser's page mentions without listing for sale. Trusted Reviews reports Sennheiser expects three to four years before servicing.[3] [2] [4]
The September 2026 reviews are warm about the sound, too. Tom's Guide's Erin Bashford put the earbuds among the best-sounding pairs she's ever worn, T3's Freeman-Mills counted them among the best earbuds he's tested in a long while, and What Hi-Fi's Harry McKerrell called them perhaps Sennheiser's best-ever wireless earbuds. Cocks puts the transparency mode level with AirPods for natural passthrough and calls the Dolby Atmos processing convincing, and What Hi-Fi notes the IP54 rating beats the IPX4 of Sony, Technics and Bose rivals.[5] [2] [6] [1]
Sennheiser rates the buds at up to 12 hours with noise cancelling (ANC) off. SoundGuys' lab got 6 hours 17 minutes with it on; TechRadar's three-hour playlist at 50% volume, ANC on, left 60%, a projected 7.5 hours; Trusted Reviews' three-hour drain at 50% volume left 50%, about six. Battery wear is the longer story: Sennheiser's product manager told Cocks that 80 to 90% of capacity should remain after 500 charge cycles, about four years at two hours a day by Cocks' arithmetic, and What Hi-Fi notes a protection mode that caps charging at roughly 80%.[4] [3] [1] [6]
Noise cancelling lands close to the leaders: SoundGuys measured just under 85% of outside noise blocked, a couple of points off the leader, and in Trusted Reviews' pink-noise comparison Sony's WF-1000XM6 and Bose's QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds were slightly quieter. Calls and fit divide the panel. Trusted Reviews' Kob Monney found his caller couldn't make out his words in loud areas, while the person Bashford phoned heard her clearly with city noise at maximum volume. Bashford's ears ached after around five minutes because of the large nozzle, though her colleagues were comfortable, and Thomas warns that opening the buds can dislodge or break the rubber gasket behind the IP54 rating.[3] [4] [5]
TechRadar reported that Sennheiser couldn't yet confirm what replacement batteries would cost, and the US store still showed no replacement battery for the earbuds or case on 1 November 2026. For sound and features, the reviews support buying now. If longevity is the whole point, wait for a posted battery price before buying, since the swap only pays off once you know what the spare costs.[1] [7]
