XREAL Aura's 70-degree Android XR glasses dim their lenses automatically for immersive apps

XREAL set a $1,279 US price on 7 October. Testers like the picture, though two reported strain after 20 to 30 minutes.

At a glance

Skip it if: a puck on a cable doesn't suit your day, or your content needs a tall view.

Reviewers agree: the 70-degree view impresses.

They split on: comfort, from praised lightness to strain after 20 to 30 minutes.

Price: $1,279 for the 12GB/256GB puck, per XREAL's 7 October release.

Status: tester impressions come from demos; only earlier reservation holders can pre-order.

When someone grabbed his attention during a Google I/O demo in May 2026, Tom's Guide's Jason England looked away from the content and XREAL Aura's lenses went fully transparent on their own, so he could keep eye contact. That self-clearing trick sits beside a bigger number: a 70-degree field of view, meaning how wide the picture spreads, in glasses XREAL says weigh under 95 grams. On 7 October, XREAL set a US price of $1,279 for the Android XR glasses and opened pre-orders to people who had already paid a reservation deposit.[1] [2]

Aura splits the work in two: the glasses carry the optics and cameras, while a puck on a cable provides the processing, runs Android XR with Google Play apps and works as a trackpad. Road to VR's Ben Lang described the puck as smartphone-sized, and Skarredghost, writing on 27 August 2026 about two AWE sessions, put it at around 300 grams and counted five manual dimming levels, plus an automatic mode that darkens for VR apps and clears for AR ones. In TechRadar's IFA demo, published 4 September 2026, Hamish Hector ran a GTA 6 trailer beside a Steam Deck game while Gemini offered coaching.[2] [3] [4] [5]

Testers keep coming back to the width. England had been sceptical of the 70-degree claim until he saw it, then called it a generational leap for immersion, with edge blur drifting into peripheral vision; by his count the previous ceiling was 58 degrees on the VITURE Beast. Lang, in his December 2025 demo, found the view usable and the sharpness and brightness impressive, though he considers 70 degrees the bare minimum for an immersive operating system. Skarredghost read and edited text in Google Docs, praised the pixel density of the 1920 x 1200 panels, and had one main complaint: the vertical view feels short.[1] [3] [4]

Comfort splits testers. TechRadar's Hector credited the glasses with the lightness and comfort edge expected over a bulkier VR wearable, and Skarredghost found them comfortable until about 30 minutes in, when strain appeared on the nose and ears. BGR's José Adorno, in a one-on-one IFA demo reported on 8 September 2026, said his eyes felt tired after 20 minutes, though the company says people get used to it. Lang saw obvious pupil swim, the warping as you turn your head, and a world dimmed like sunglasses indoors; Skarredghost saw slight warping and a darker world that posed no problem on the expo floor.[4] [5] [6] [3]

XREAL's 7 October release lists $1,279 for the 12GB/256GB puck and $1,499 for 16GB/512GB. Pre-orders are open only to people who reserved before that date, general orders open in the coming weeks, and XREAL says shipping begins soon in the US, Canada, Japan and South Korea. Once retail units reach reviewers, three checks matter most: how tall the view feels for your content, comfort for eyes, nose and ears past 20 to 30 minutes, and whether a puck on a cable suits your day.[2] [4] [6]
