XREAL One Pro review roundup: a great private screen, a very personal text test.

Named reviewers praise its optics and sound, while owners disagree sharply on work readability. Fit and the task explain more than an averaged score.

Travel praise answers a specific question

Jason England's Tom's Guide review describes One Pro as a convincing travel display, with the wider view making its pinned ultrawide mode especially useful on a long flight. He praises the image and Bose-tuned audio, but questions whether the premium over cheaper display glasses pays off for someone who mainly wants a screen for a handheld console.

That is a useful distinction between capability and value. The same display can be an excellent solution to an awkward airplane seat and an unnecessary expense beside a good desk monitor. England's account is a report of his experience, not our own test. We take its strongest lesson to be situational: start with the place where your current screen lets you down. A convincing demonstration at home may still leave the expensive travel problem unanswered.

The setup behind a positive verdict

Hamish Hector tested One Pro over several weeks, mainly with Beam Pro, a Galaxy Z Fold 6 and a computer. In his June 2025 TechRadar review, he highlights the improved optical system, fewer distracting reflections and strong built-in sound. He also notes that add-ons can raise the full price substantially, and recommends headphones when travelling.

Those host and listening choices are useful context. A review centred on streaming through an accessory is not a test of every laptop, console and charging adapter. Tom's Guide and TechRadar have different reviewers but the same corporate publisher, so their agreement should not be dressed up as an independent market-wide consensus. Compare the actual routes they used with your proposed kit. If the route differs, treat the recommendation as a reason to test rather than as a compatibility guarantee.

Sound and simplicity are the repeated strengths

WIRED's Simon Hill singles out sound quality and the ability to pin a view without an extra app or accessory. He also identifies brighter competitors, absent diopter dials and limitations in the Nebula software. Engadget's Devindra Hardawar found long stationary laptop sessions comfortable, while noting the cable and bulky frame.

These are different levels of assessment: a tested buying-guide entry and a longer first-person review. Together they suggest two useful priorities for a demonstration. Try the glasses' own speakers before assuming extra earbuds are essential, and try the baseline connection before loading additional software. Both choices affect whether the product feels like a convenient tool. A more elaborate workspace may be impressive yet demand more steps than the everyday task needs.

Owners make the text question harder

A June 2025 first-day owner report describes clear text and no corner blur after adjusting the hinges. In a separate April 2026 discussion, someone who bought One Pro for programming and other text-heavy work reported poor legibility and flickering. Another participant in that discussion described a much better experience after changing display resolution and scaling.

These are self-reported anecdotes with unverified identities and settings. We cannot determine whether the disagreement came from fit, eyesight, software, a defective unit or expectations, and we should not pretend otherwise. They do reveal a test worth doing before a return window closes: your own fonts, applications and sustained reading. A beautiful movie scene cannot establish that an editor full of small coloured text will be comfortable for the same wearer.

Do not inherit a reviewer's whole desk

Our recommendation is to recreate the boring parts of work. Open your actual spreadsheet or editor, keep your usual input devices in place and read small details at the edges. Look away to use the keyboard, return to the image and note whether repeated adjustments are necessary. Add the prescription insert you would buy, rather than testing a configuration you will later change.

Keep notes on the host, resolution, scaling, glasses size and viewing mode. That makes the trial interpretable if something goes wrong. It also gives an owner comment far more value than a five-star score. We would rather read that one person used a particular laptop comfortably for 45 minutes than see an unqualified claim that the glasses replace every monitor. These are proposed checks, not a diagnosis of the negative owner report.

The sensible shortlist is narrow

One Pro has a persuasive case for private entertainment and occasional portable work, supported by several positive original reports. The case for replacing a full-time desk display is much more personal. That distinction should remain visible in a buying recommendation.

Compare current prices for the complete kit, including any prescription inserts, charging solution and audio you need. Verify present compatibility rather than carrying a 2025 accessory promise into a 2026 purchase. If the product makes your main task simpler and the image suits your eyes, its premium can be justified. If your goal is merely to enlarge a handheld screen, a cheaper model may already solve the problem. The useful verdict is not the average of other people's ratings. It is the set of repeatable tasks those reports tell you to test for yourself.
